Government through its duly authorised officers phat: direct and he shall not directly or indirectly engage
be concerned in any other service or business whatsoever or receive commissions or propts of any kind but shall devote the whole of his time and attention to the service of the Government and he shall use his utmost exertions to promote the interests of the Government The Government shall pay the person engaged devring the continuance of his services salary at the rate of Iwo hundred pounds

of right but only by sanction of the Government and will not be granted except upon the production of certificate from the Head of his Department stating. that the person engaged has discharged his duties with diligence and fidelity. The salary will be payable monthly in dollars at the rate which will approximately be the average Hong Kong demand rate from the fifteenth day of th: preceding month to the fifteenth day of the month for which salary is to be paid. The Government shall also provide the person engaged, with free quarters or in the event of no Government quarters being available shall pay him a house allowance at the rate of Therly Lollars (830) per mensem in leeu thereof. No other allowances than the above will be granted. Half salary will be pard during the voyage out and home ragain on the satisfactory termination of this engagement. If the person ongaged shall be compelled by reason of ill-health not caused by his own misconduct to resign his appointment or of at any time it shall be certified by a duly qualified medical officer employed by the Government that he is incapable on physical grounds of rendering further efficient service in the Colony the Govern- ment shall pay him his salary up to the date of such revignation or certificate and shall, if he is in the Colony at the time provede him with a pee passage to England provided that he claims and avails himself of such return passage within me. month but he shall have.
